How to disable the annoying sliding popup on nytimes.com

On the New York Times web site, there is an annoying sliding popup that shows when you get to the end of an article. Here's how to disable it. (If there's an easier way, please add it in the comments.)

NOTE - This only works on Firefox.

1. Install AdBlockPlus (ABP) LINK

2, After Firefox restarts, ABP will ask you to install a "filter subscription." You can skip this step unless you want to block other ads.

3. Install ABP's Element Hiding Helper LINK

4. Firefox will restart again.

5. Visit a New York Times article. Scroll to the bottom and let the annoying sliding ad come up.

6. Click on the ABP toolbar icon - it looks like a stop sign. Select "Select element to hide."

7. Place the mouse cursor in the top margin of the popup. There should be text on the bottom that begins with "div, id: upNext".

8. Click the mouse.

9. You should get a dialog box saying:
Element hiding rule
nytimes.com###upNext

10. Click on "Add element hiding rule".

11. You can now browse the NYT's web site free of sliding popups!

Thank you so much. What is it with the current need among Western companies to spy, intrude and harass users? Why is this now the new default?

Terrific. What is it with these companies imposing suggestions, recommendations and standard invasions of privacy on people who just want to use a basic service?
